Issues in Progress Testing - WORKSHOP FULL

This workshop will explore issues in progress testing from the perspective of several institutions that have years of experience in the area. Issues to be addressed are: Question writing and screening, standard setting and methods to identify pass/fail, administration and software development, experience with multi-institution administration, and psychometric issues - reliability and validity. Participants will have an opportunity to examine the strengths and weakness of various approaches and share their concerns and experiences.
Workshop 2 - WORKSHOP FULL

The workshop, intended for participants with some knowledge and experience of workplace based assessment, will look at developing strategies for the successful implementation of MiniCEX and DOPS. It will examine how to deal with problems that might arise such as resistance and fears of trainees, and faculty development issues, as well as methodology, quality, and evaluation.

Demonstration of simulation-based training and assessment in action

The Gordon Center is a designated Center of Excellence of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. It was established 40 years ago for the application of advanced technology to multiprofessional healthcare education. The Center occupies an expanded all-new 34,000 sq.ft. state-of-the-art facility, with the full capability for simulation and computer design engineering and houses a high technology auditorium, self-learning laboratory, standardized patient training area, fire rescue vehicle, car for extrication of trauma victims, hazardous materials decontamination showers and mock emergency department. Faculty will discuss the process of operating a simulation-based training and assessment center, creating simulation_based curricula and performing outcomes research.

Measuring Teamwork: Strategies and Tools for Assessment in Simulation and On-the-Job

The recognition that teamwork is a vital component of a safe, reliable, and quality healthcare system is growing across clinical disciplines. Consequently, teamwork concepts are beginning to be integrated into healthcare education curricula at all levels creating a need to assess these skills in healthcare professionals. This workshop provides an introduction to fundamental methods of team performance measurement and assessment. More specifically, this workshop will discuss issues of content, methods, and scoring for team performance measures, and provide an overview of general strategies for team performance assessment in simulation as well as in on-the-job performance situations.
